HRFC Annual Night Walk
“It was a dark and stormy night……..”, well it was quite dark, and the gentle drizzle drifting through the head torch beams added a bit of atmosphere as we set out from the warmth of the Plough at Crowhurst.
Contacting the Emergency Services
Important note to Club Members and friends…
Sometimes there is insufficient signal strength to make a 999 voice call on your mobile in the mountains, but a text may work. The 999 service has introduced a service to use this facility, but you MUST register first.
Winter Barbecue Report
This popular event was once again held at El Rancho Peak and followed tradition with a merry band of helpers constructing a heap of extremely damp, if not waterlogged, timber in the middle of a wet field. The unspoken question in every ones mind, ”will it burn”, being drowned out by cries of “of course it will”.
Another piece of Hastings Rock and Fell Club history…
While carrying out some research for another project, one of our members, Mark Rymell, during a search of old editions of the Hastings & St Leonards Observer, came across an advert in issue dated 23rd November 1974.
HRFC Annual Dinner Trip 2010
This weekend was the third occasion on which the club has visited the Isle of Portland for the Dinner bash and I think it again proved to be a great success The island has a charm of its own and the accommodation and restaurant were again most satisfactory.
An Anniversary for Hastings Rock and Fell Club
Monday the 7th of October 1985 may not at first sight appear to be a very significant date, but is in fact the date of the first evening that the Club used the Grove Wall.
Lundy, September 2010
The Dirty Dozen (less one) or The Magnificent Seven (plus four) Do Lundy!
Click here for the trip photo gallery and here for the trip comic!
In 2005 Lundy was named as Britain’s tenth greatest natural wonder and having now been there I can quite see why that might be. Why the powers that be let our motley crew go there is questionable however and surely puts this accolade in some jeopardy?
Ladies Weekend, August 2010
The hardcore womenfolk of HRFC aka the usual suspects Jean, Ruth, Jane and I planned a weekend foray into the far reaches of West Dorset a land flowing with cider and fossils.
North Wales, August 2010
The trip this year was memorable for two reasons, firstly the fact that owing to torrential rain the river at the edge of the camp site was in full spate and threatened at some time on Friday to burst its banks and flood the site (which the farmer informed us had happened on occasion). Secondly this was the first trip to Wales for some of the members attending.
Peak District, July 2010
A report on this year’s Peak trip from club nephew Sam Hartshorn…
