Calling all new climbers!

If you are new to rock climbing in the last year or two and have not yet ventured beyond climbing walls and, maybe, top rope protected climbing at Harrisons & Bowles Rocks, then our Club trip to the Peak District in the summer (see newsletter for dates) will be a perfect trip for you to come and learn about climbing with a lead climber and traditional protection techniques.

The gritstone and limestone crags of the Peak District, such as Stanage Rocks, Burbage Edges, Birchden Edge and Harborough Rocks have many classic rock climbs that are both exciting and ideal for beginners to learn how to do trad climbing with a leader placing his/ her own protection and a second following them up and taking the protection out.

We have members with many years experience of this type of climbing who will be on hand to guide you. Find out:

  • What to wear
  • Grading of trad climbs.
  • How to tie on.
  • Leader/seconder communication systems.
  • How to protect yourself on both single & multi pitch climbs.
  • The pleasure of climbing in one of the original homes of British rock climbing.

Accommodation will be camping at a campsite (to be advised) with all the usual wash/toilet facilities.

Please note that this is not a course and by attending then you must accept that there is a degree of risk in all rock climbing and that you accept this risk as your responsibility.

If you are interested, then please contact Dick Gasson or Nick Warren.
